Online ESL & World Language Programs Summer 2021 MSU’s Community Language School (part of the College of Arts & Letters) is offering online classes in foreign languages and ESL (in collaboration with the English Language Center) this summer. Family programs are offered to children 3-6 years of age, Kids programs for children 6-9 years, pre-teens/teens for kids ages 10-14 years and adult programs for 18 years and above. Our online programs are designed to provide a fun, virtual learning environment which will introduce students to different languages and cultures with a focus on developing oral communication skills. The interactive and engaging environment and the small size of our groups ensure active learning. Our classes will be offered live via Zoom over 2 sessions this summer with classes meetings once a week (Family and kids classes meet for 45 minutes, Preteen/teen classes meet for 60 minutes and adult classes meet for 1.5 hours). We are in the process of building our online presence in our community through social media and while the majority of it has been great, we have noticed some questionable comments from people popping up here and there. Unfortunately it seems to be mostly in regards to our content highlighting diversity and inclusivity. While I don't want to censor individuals, I want to make sure that EVERYONE feels welcome and is represented in our collections and on our social media. I would love to know what policies or procedures your libraries have put in place to respond in situations like these.
