Due to a retirement, the Northville District Library seeks an enthusiastic and innovative individual for a full-time position to serve as one of its Youth Services Librarians. Position: Youth Services Librarian 40 Hours per week, including some weekends and evenings This is a Union Position Salary Range: $43,947.93-$55,613.19 based upon prior work experience Benefits: Health Insurance (medical, dental and vision), disability insurance, and MERS retirement. Paid time off includes sick, vacation, holiday, and personal business time. Essential Duties Include: • Participates in community and school outreach activities • Develops and implements a variety of youth programming including story times and other literature-based programming, Summer Reading, STEAM activities, crafts and hosting performers. • Develops and maintains youth collection areas by reviewing, evaluating, selecting, purchasing, and withdrawing materials • Provides reference, readers’ advisory, and library services support for users of all ages at the public Information and Reference Desks • Promotes informational literacy and facilitates learning in the library using a variety of techniques • Recommends changes in programs, services, and collections based upon new developments in the library field • Communicates effectively with staff and patrons • Serves as the Librarian-in-Charge of the building when assigned • Participates in Continuing Education opportunities • Performs related duties as assigned Required Qualifications: • Master’s Degree in library science from an ALA-accredited college or university • Possess a Level I or II Professional Certificate from the Library of Michigan. STEM grant opportunity

The NASA Office of STEM Engagement is inviting proposals from libraries, museums, and other institutions to support innovative programs, opportunities or products that reach a diverse set of students, specifically groups that are underrepresented in STEM. Proposals should create or amplify an innovative remote or distance learning program, opportunity, or platform/project to reach K-12 students using relevant NASA content during the 2020-2021 school year and/or in summer 2021 and continuing beyond. Projects are required to partner with a NASA Center or other entity. Grants will range from $100,000 - $175,000, and up to six will be awarded. Upper Peninsula Job Opportunities

The Superior District Library has several job opportunities available for those seeking to get away from it all. Come join our team and find out why the Yooper lifestyle is the best. The Brevort Township Library is seeking a part-time (20-25 hours per week) Library manager to run this vital community hub. Located in the town of Moran, the library is currently open four days a week in this summertime paradise near the lakes. Or if winter is your thing, this wooded area is criss-crossed with snowmobile and skiing trails. Or if you're seeking a more "urban" way of life, the Bayliss Public Library located in Sault Ste. Marie has two openings. The first is a full-time position with benefits as the Head of Circulation. This position includes duties for the entire Superior District Library as well, and does require some travel between locations. Your work week is approximately 35 hours a week, with Sundays and Mondays off, so plenty of time to enjoy the beautiful Upper Peninsula. The second is as a part-time assistant bookkeeper for the Superior District Library, working out of the Bayliss Library location. The position is approximately 15-20 hours a week, and are fairly flexible. The last position is at the amazing, nationally ranked, Pickford Community Library. This position is part-time, approximately 15-20 hours per week, with every Sunday and Monday off. The Pickford Library has been ranked in the Scholastic Summer Reading challenges top 5 libraries for the past several years, winning first place in 2018. You will be working with a dynamic, new Manager, and we be in on the ground floor of a new building project. Very exciting times at Pickford. Reed Introduce Legislation to Provide Stabilization Funding to Libraries During COVID-19 Pandemic Congressman Andy Levin (D-MI) and Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) today introduced companion bills in the House and Senate to provide critical stabilization funding to libraries facing revenue losses from the COVID-19 pandemic. “Funding for local governments has been top of mind for me throughout this crisis and driven much of my congressional action.” Rep. Levin said. “We need to ensure that libraries and their employees can continue providing the services that have become even more important during the pandemic. Libraries are a source of information, educational materials, entertainment, professional development, and even telehealth care. We need to lift up these institutions whose primary goal is to serve everyone, regardless of area code, so that our children, families, friends and students can benefit from the wealth of resources libraries have to offer.” “At a time when budgets of local governments have been decimated, America can’t afford to dismiss a national infrastructure of 117,000 libraries nimble enough to offer relief and advance recovery,” said American Library Association (ALA) President Julius C. Jefferson Jr. “The Library Stabilization Fund Act is the comprehensive federal response needed to keep our nation’s libraries safely in operation, and ALA is throwing the full weight of our advocacy network into supporting the bill. ALA applauds Representative Levin's leadership in recognizing that the library services Americans rely on are utterly dependent on library funding.” The Library Stabilization Act creates a $2 billion stabilization fund to bolster library services and address revenue losses. The bill instructs the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) to distribute these funds for a range of services, including to: * Maintain library services and keep nearly 370,000 library workers on the job; * Purchase cleaning and PPE supplies and train staff for safe re-opening; * Expand technology and services to keep library users connected; and * Strengthen collections and programs to address needs such as remote learning, early literacy, job skills and access to government services. In March, Rep. Michigan Activity Pass Re-Start: Week of July 13-17

All, As you know on March 17 we made the difficult decision to put the Michigan Activity Pass (MAP) program on temporary hiatus [ http://www.plymouthrockets.com/michiganactivitypass/ | http://www.plymouthrockets.com/michiganactivitypass/ ] Following careful consideration we are pleased to announce that we have set a (still tentative; although highly probable but of course subject to change on short notice as with everything else in our world today) date to re-start MAP. Our plan is to bring the Michigan Activity Pass program back on line one day during the week of July 13-17. As of today I do not have an exact date for MAP re-start, although I can tell you it will not be Monday, July 13 or Friday, July 17. Approximately 400 partner destinations will be included in the MAP re-start. We will be placing emphasis on mobile passes for MAP. Many/most of our MAP partner destinations either have in the past or will begin to at program re-start, including the Michigan Department of Natural Resources sites, accept a mobile pass. More detailed information concerning the re-start of the Michigan Activity Pass program will be forthcoming in the weeks ahead.
