[MeL favicon]It was over seven months ago, October 2019 that I scheduled this Summer Reading Program topic. Little did I know at the time, that I’d have to reinvent the piece, and “imagine a different story.” The realities of COVID-19 impact libraries and how we offer services and programs. We’re looking for new and interesting ways to reimagine our Summer Reading Programs while experiencing challenges unlike anything we’ve ever known. Please contact me with any questions. ____________ Improving Access to Information Grant program This LSTA grant program is designed to provide public and academic libraries with the opportunity to expand services for learning and access to information and/or to develop library services that provide all users access to information. The intent is to fund one-year projects that improve access to library collections and information. In a given fiscal year, the Library of Michigan will fund a limited number of grants that meet these priorities: * Improve access to services & information in areas of literacy. * Improve access to services & information in areas of local history or special collections. * Improve access to information for community users with limited online access, e.g. improving equity through digital inclusion. Applicants may propose a project for any of the three priorities listed above. The grant period is one year (Oct.-Sept.) and funding is for $5,000 to $25,000 per year and awarded grants will run from Oct. 1, 2020 through September 30, 2021. Gateless libraries

We're having some work done, updating the library a bit, and I've been considering the merits of removing our security gates. Personally, I think they just keep the honest people honest, and those who want to steal, will. I'd like to hear from any other library that may have removed security gates, find out what your experiences have been. What prompted you to make the change, have you noticed an increase in lost/missing items, do you try to keep good track of loss, what kind of security do you still have in place, anything you think would help me make a decision. Remote Meetings extended to June 30 with EO2020-75

Governor Gretchen Whitmer today signed Executive Order 2020-75, which extends a previous Executive Order that allows public bodies to conduct remote public meetings during the continuing COVID-19 pandemic. Executive Order 75 expires on June 30, 2020. “As we continue to flatten the curve, it’s important to give public bodies the flexibility they need to conduct virtual meetings and limit in-person contact,” Governor Whitmer said. “During this ongoing crisis, it’s critical to ensure public officials can continue to do their jobs and meet the needs of residents, while also ensuring meetings remain open, accessible and transparent to the public.” Under Executive Order 2020-75, public bodies subject to the Open Meetings Act, including boards, commissions, committees, subcommittees, authorities, councils and nonprofit boards, can use telephone- or video- conferencing methods to continue meeting and conducting business during the coronavirus (COVID-19) public health crisis, so long as they follow certain procedures to ensure meaningful access and participation by members of the public body and the general public. Public bodies must meet the following criteria when holding a public meeting electronically: · Ensure two-way communication for members and the public to hear and address each other when speaking. · Provide adequate notice to the public of the meeting. · Post a public meeting notice on their website. · Permit participants to record or broadcast the public meeting. · Allow participants to address the public body during a public comment period. The order also temporarily authorizes public bodies, departments and agencies to use technology to enable remote participation in public comment and hearings, and temporarily excuses school boards from monthly meeting requirements. circulating laptops

If anyone is circulating laptops, I am in need of some guidance on how to set them up for public use. Are you using management software? On a side note, if anyone has a solution with Ubuntu, that is a bonus. They are older PCs. RBdigital Michigan Statewide Discounts Project
