The 2019 Public Innovators Lab for Libraries will be held Tuesday, Oct. 15, to Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019, at the Loudermilk Conference Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Librarians, community partners and stakeholders in libraries of all types - public, academic, school and special libraries - are invited to attend. The cost is $995 per person, which includes a Public Innovator Lab Book, a Public Innovator Toolkit that you can use with your staff and community partners, and three months of post-Lab enrichment support. The Harwood Public Innovators Lab is an intensive workshop that explores the practice of Turning Outward - using the community, not your conference room, as the reference point for library choices and action. Participants will leave the Lab as the next class in a group of over 4,000 library professionals who have learned this approach to community engagement. Through a combination of discussions, hands-on-activities and breakout groups, participants will learn to: * Tap your library's natural value as an authentic center of community engagement; * Surface people's shared aspirations and help bring them to life; * Turn Outward and become a steward of public knowledge; and * Convene and lead productive and insightful community conversations. Hi everyone, It's with deep sadness that I'm sorry to tell you that Michele Brussow, our Downtown Lansing Branch Head Librarian and long-time member of our CADL family, has passed away suddenly. We're still in shock about her passing. Her dedication and happy demeanor made a wonderful impact on those of us she worked with, and the patrons she served. She led so many creative and engaging projects at CADL and she will be missed by all. Please keep her family in your thoughts during this difficult time. The Library of Michigan produces a bi-monthly newsletter called the LM Dispatch. The LM Dispatch has a subscriber list of almost 6,000, well more than double that of Michlib-l. We reach a lot library workers, but we also reach many citizens who are interested in Michigan libraries. A survey of readers found that library success stories were highly valued and we aim to include multiple writers from the field speaking directly to their current activities in every issue. In 2019, we're focusing on library programming with 1-2 articles per issue about success in this critical area of library operations. Nearly 515 Michigan elementary, middle and high school students took part in this year's Michigan History Day State Finals competition, which is an educational program of the Historical Society of Michigan. The finalists in the junior and senior divisions will now move on to the National History Day competition this June in College Park, Maryland. The state champions for Michigan History Day 2019 include students from Ada, Ann Arbor, Bay City, Berkley, Beverly Hills, Bloomfield Hills, Brimley, Byron Center, DeTour, Detroit, Fraser, Grand Rapids, Houghton, Howell, Kalamazoo, Kentwood, Lake Linden, Marshall, Montague, Newberry, Saginaw, Sault Ste. The graphic for 2019's T-Shirts was designed by student Harini Dev, from Troy, who won Michigan History Day's first-ever T-Shirt Design Contest. Michigan History Day (National History Day in Michigan) offers a fascinating opportunity to move beyond routine learning. Based on an annual theme, students choose to explore and research a local, national or international historical topic. Students then present their work in one of five categories: performances, exhibits, papers, websites and documentaries. Lead sponsors of Michigan History Day 2019 are The Meijer Foundation, Frederick S. Upton Foundation and Rollin M. Gerstacker Foundation. The event was hosted by Bay City Public Schools. The Historical Society of Michigan is the state's oldest cultural organization, founded in 1828 by territorial governor Lewis Cass and explorer Henry Schoolcraft. Generational Program

Good morning! I am attempting to track down a posting I saw on Michlib 2 or 3 years ago and am hoping that someone has info on it. This was a program about how different generations communicate with each other in the workplace and how these working relationships can be improved.
