Job Description The mission of the Grosse Pointe Public Library is to Expand Learning, Inspire Creativity and Connect our Community. Are you our next great Teen Services Librarian? Here is your opportunity to work at a great library with a fun staff. Join our team and work collaboratively with the Youth Services Department to provide materials and programming for teens and families both in the library and through outreach. Job Title: Teen Services Librarian (Woods Branch) Responsible To: Branch Manager Department: Youth Services Job Responsibilities: * Provide reference and reader's advisory to patrons, through use of print and electronic resources * Provide patron assistance and instruction in the use of library computers, catalog, electronic resources, digital downloads and wifi * Responsible for developing the teen collection; digital and traditional, print and electronic resources aimed at the specific interests and needs of teens in the community * Identify, implement and evaluate programs and activities that address the specific interests and needs of Grosse Pointe middle and high school aged patrons * Monitor and assist patrons and program presenters with use of meeting room and equipment, when necessary * Creation and posting of content to website and online calendar * Provide excellent customer service to the public * Supervise library environment to maintain safety and fair enforcement of library policies * Develop community and school partnerships to assess and identify changing teen trends that will fulfill the diverse educational, recreational and personal needs of local teens * Provide excellent internal customer service and teamwork to GPPL staff * Promote the services of the library and make recommendations for improvement of services * Attends and participates in professional library conferences, seminars, and network committees; reads professional literature; attends and participates in staff meeting discussions. * Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: * Master's Degree in Library Science from ALA accredited university. * Strong written and verbal communication skills. * Ability to work effectively with public, and library staff. * Enthusiasm for the Maker Movement and Emerging Technologies and a passion for getting teens involved. * Working knowledge of reference and electronic sources. * Strong public service orientation. * Excellent public service skills. * Proficient in computer use. New LIBRARY Joins Michigan Activity Pass Program!

Good Morning, As you are aware, we are constantly adding new partner destinations to the Michigan Activity Pass program. We currently have 443 participating MAP venues. That said, we are always pleased to welcome new destinations. If you know of interested MAP partners in your service area, please reach out to them with this form http://tln.lib.mi.us/map/Files/MAP%20destination%20participation%20question… The new season of MAP kicks off May 24, 2018, which makes this the perfect time to add new MAP partner destinations to the program! That said, it isn't very often we have the privilege of adding a NEW LIBRARY to MAP. Thus we are very pleased to welcome newly established Bath Township Public Library https://www.bathtownshippubliclibrary.org/ to the Michigan Activity Pass program! (not selling it, just providing it for free) I'm hoping someone out there has all the legal details regarding what is involved in doing this? *EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY* *Position: Support Services Supervisor, Permanent Part-time* *Job Duties:* · Assists Department Head in supervising the Support Services Department and staff and in developing policies and procedures; assists with hiring, training and supervising of Clerks and Shelvers, including staff evaluations, scheduling, and timecards. Schedules and maintains appropriate staffing levels within Support Services. · Performs all duties assigned in the ILS Module accurately and efficiently; problem solves patron and catalog issues; assists staff with problem solving; assists Library patrons while employing the Library’s and City of Novi’s customer service principles. · Performs workroom duties and other tasks as assigned, including sorting and loading carts for shelving; shelving of materials; shelf reading; processing holds, returns, and other materials from delivery; material processing and maintenance; troubleshooting and maintenance operations of the AST System; and registering cash, check, and credit card transactions. · Adapts and responds to multiple priorities, interruptions and demands; communicates effectively with patrons, co-workers, and professional colleagues; resolves problem situations and collaborates across departments in a positive manner. · Retains knowledge and stays up-to-date on current Library policies and procedures. · Responsible for the overall orderliness of the Library’s collections, display areas, and department areas. Supervises the opening and closing procedures for the Support Services Department. · Seeks professional continuing education, both organized and casual, with an air toward keeping services current and appropriate for the patrons. · Assists, as assigned, with department volunteers; ordering of supplies and managing budget; processing mail; monitoring and posting information on public bulletin boards; making public address announcements as needed. · Assists, as assigned, to supervise and perform Outreach Service duties.
