Greetings Michigan Library Community, If you haven't checked out Gale Directory Library<http://www.galesupport.com/migeoipcheck/migeoipcheck-gale.php?database=GDL> lately, you are missing out! For more than 60 years, Gale Directory Library<http://www.galesupport.com/migeoipcheck/migeoipcheck-gale.php?database=GDL> has been a trusted source of information for many libraries and patrons. With a major new enhancement to the interface, additional workflow tools, and improved search and export capabilities in place, this popular collection of online directories is easier to use than ever before. Data that Works for You Businesses seeking prospects, students searching for scholarships, fundraisers looking for contacts, and patrons researching health care providers by location and specialty, will find the information they need. Also, last year MeL added Encyclopedia of Associations: National Organizations of the U.S. (2017), so be sure to check it out! Here is a brief summary of the new enhancements: Homepage * Cover images now display for each series and include a description of the content within. * Cover images link to an "About this Series" page where a user can search against the most recent edition or entire series. They can also select individual editions within a series, and see an "About this Publication" page. * New tools now included in the product: Search History, Highlights and Notes, My Folder, Bookmark, and Title List. Export * Users can download to Google Drive, Microsoft One Drive, locally, or via email. * Combined export now includes Common, Expanded, and People options from the same screen. Delivery options are also included. * Now able to export up to 1,000 records per export from the user's search results. Range can be input (e.g. 1,000-2,000) to export subsequent records. Basic Search * Relevance added to basic search-closer matches sort to the top of the search results list. * Options that may have been confusing were removed (Entity Name, Subject, Keyword) and combined into a single basic search. Advanced Search * Simplified product selection enables users to cross search content. * Browsable search indexes are available that allow users to select search terms from a drop-down menu or make check-box selections. * Industry codes (SIC/NAICS) prompt a selection window to pop up, which makes it easier for the user to browse and select the right code. Future Ready with the Library Cohort 3 Application Future Ready with the Library project funding is provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Through this project, the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) and the Association for Rural and Small Libraries (ARSL) will support library staff as they work with a community partner to develop college and career readiness services. 35 participants will be selected for cohort 3. The project FAQ is available<http://www.ala.org/yalsa/future-ready-library-faq> and includes information on the project, the application process, and project expectations for participants. Potential applicants should read this information in order to gain an understanding of the activities they will be invited to participate in if selected for cohort 3. Apply now for the Great Stories Club, a reading and discussion programs for underserved teens The American Library Association (ALA) is now accepting applications for the Great Stories Club, a grant program in which library workers lead reading and discussion programs with underserved teens in their communities. Working with small groups of approximately 10 teens, grantees will host reading and discussion programs for up to four thematically related books. The titles - selected in consultation with librarian advisors and humanities scholars - are chosen to resonate with reluctant readers struggling with complex issues like academic probation, detention, incarceration, violence and poverty. Grantees will receive: 11 paperback copies of up to four book selections (10 to gift to participants; one for discussion leader/library collection) Travel and accommodation expenses paid for one staff member to attend a 1 ½-day project orientation workshop in Chicago (libraries selected to implement both Great Stories Club series may be assigned to attend only one workshop) Programming materials, including discussion guides, related reading lists and promotional resources Potential applicants may sign up for a free webinar to learn more about this opportunity. A few years ago, we re-decorated our teen room, which led to us having an extra, round, wooden table. We've shifted it all over the library, but it has become clear that we no longer have the space for it. So, we are selling the table for $50, or best offer. The table is 50" in diameter, and stands 29" high. I will attach a photo. You can have four of the wooden chairs shown if you want them, but you do not have to take them if you don't.
