ALA Trustee Citation Award - Nominations Due Jan 7

The ALA Trustee Citation, established in 1941 to recognize public library Trustees for distinguished service to library development, symbolizes and honors the best contributions and efforts of the estimated 60,000 American citizens who serve on library boards. It is presented during the Opening General Session at the ALA Annual Conference. Recipients are expected to be present to accept the award, and expenses for attending must be borne by the recipients or their library organizations. Trustee service may have been performed on the local, state, regional or national level, or at a combination of levels. Equal consideration is given to Trustees of libraries of all sizes. Citations may not be awarded when there is no sufficiently outstanding achievement brought to the attention of the Awards Committee. Past recipients of the ALA Trustee Citation are not eligible. Requirements for nomination include: * Actual Trustee service at least part of the calendar year preceding the Annual Conference at which award is made. * Comprehensive statement of the nominee's achievements. * Nomination(s) by any individual library Trustee, librarian, library board, state library agency, state library association, state Trustee association, Public Library Association, or United for Libraries. Include signature(s) of nominator(s) and endorsing organizations and individuals. Current United for Libraries board members are not eligible to be nominated. * Statement of support no longer than five double-spaced pages. Describe, in chronological order, the nominee's library-related activities. policy help

Hello all; I'm hoping someone can help me..I fiqured why reinvent the wheel when I have you. Our new program room will be finished this month. The Board doesn't want it rented out, but if a Non Profit would like to use it during library hours and we are not using it they can. Does anyone have a policy on this. Video Game Collection Questions

Hi everyone, We have some questions for libraries with video game collections. We have a video game collection and we are looking into moving the collection from the back staff area out to the shelves for patrons to browse through. We are wondering, do you keep the disc/cartridge in the game case and then use a security case? If you don't keep the disc with the case, where and how do you store the discs? Do you use a binder or something else? What has worked best for both patrons and staff? We appreciate any insight you can offer. Please respond off list to me. Thank you! Public Libraries and Foster Care

Hello all, I'm curious if there are any services or programs offered by libraries for foster children, teens, parents, or the entire foster family? Or if any libraries work with local social workers to provide resources, programs, or workshops to the foster care community? The only things that I've been able to find are Foster Care Library cards and the use of the library as a meeting space for biological families to visit their children that are in foster care. I'm very interested in learning what other services or programs libraries are offering to foster care communities! Mini-golf give away

Hi everyone, The past two years we've done a mini-golf fundraiser in January. Although it's been fun we've decided to change things up a little bit so we've decided to get rid of all the golfing supplies. This includes all of the following items: - A pallet of grey bricks - 9 (45”X94”) Blue rectangular indoor/outdoor carpet (with hole precut) - Putters: - Toddler size – plastic: 3 - Kid size: 5 - Adult size: 17 - Assorted colored golf balls: 62 Some photos are attached, so you can see what we're talking about.
