Special committees and open meetings

Our Board of Trustees has put together a special Planning Committee charged with working on the Strategic Plan that was developed a few years ago. While two board members sit on the committee it is not a regular committee of the board and they have one very specific task. The other members of the committee are community members who are committed to improving the library. There is a very negative group of folks in town who do not want the library to succeed, or even exist. One of those people has heard of this committee and wants to be notified when they meet and attend those meetings. I probably cannot lock her, or anyone, out of the meetings, but do we have to notify her of the meetings or allow public comment? We are not trying to hide anything, and this Planning Committee will be holding public meetings and forums as they proceed. Thank you for your collective wisdom. We have reopened our summer library internship position. If you know of anyone interested, please spread the word. It's a wonderful summer experience here at Interlochen. DATES: 6/12/17-8/7/17 Interlochen Center for the Arts is looking to hire an Academic Library Intern for the 2017 camp season. The dates of the contract are 6/12/17-8/7/17 and the stipend for the entire duration of the contract is $1,525. Housing is provided for the dates contracted. All meals are included with your agreement- breakfast, lunch and dinner. Major Responsibilities This is a great internship opportunity for someone interested in librarianship as a career. This position serves the needs of the Interlochen Arts Camp by helping to provide campers, faculty, and staff with resources to support their arts specialty and personal interests while on campus. - Duties include circulation, shelving, book processing, and implementing summer programs. - This position also requires the ability to assist library patrons of various ages and interests with finding information by utilizing a variety of databases and the catalog. - Other responsibilities may include summer projects ranging from collections management to work on the library website. Qualifications - Applicants currently in an MLS program are preferred. - Applicants must possess excellent customer service skills, proficiency with technology, attentiveness to detail, and a willingness to participate in a team environment. - Experience with Mac OS and applications is desirable. I am putting together materials to take outside the library to a local festival. The library will have a booth at the festival and we will market summer reading and some of the things our community might not know that we have available. I am curious what other librarians have put together when attending such events. Are there any displays, handouts or activities that you find work really well or that the public seems to respond to? Recommended workshop

We just had Mardi Jo Link (author of Bootstrapper) present a 2-hour writing workshop called "Yes, you CAN write a memoir!" at Croton Township Library and it was excellent! I highly recommend her! Mardi shared many different strategies for writing, was very personable and engaging. Even a non-write would come away with some excellent ideas for writing for themselves. POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Head of Adult Services coordinates and administers library services and programs for the general adult population, including young adults/teens and older adults services.
