Just a few days left to sign-up for our STEM Programming & Inclusive Storytimes Workshop, being offered at 4 locations across Michigan. There are a few seats left, so please go to: http://www.solutionwhere.com/lom/cw/showcourse.asp?82 Each of the one-day workshop offers 3 sessions for public library youth & teen staff members: In the morning session, all participants will have the opportunity to learn how to use & implement programming on MaKey MaKey and littleBits. Each participant will be given one MaKey MaKey and one littleBits kit to take back to their library for programming use and/or circulation to the public ($200 value!). The afternoon will offer two breakout sessions. The first being for children's staff: an interactive Inclusive storytime session with hands-on activities and implementation ideas with Bloomfield Township Public Library's Jen Taggart and Michigan Braille & Talking Book Library's Stephanie Wambaugh (Bridgid Turner from LARA will be speaking on behalf of Stephanie at our Marquette workshop). The second afternoon breakout is for staff working with Teens & Tweens: a Portable MakerSpace Kit session, where ideas and tips for fun, easy-to-do, "on the go" STEM programming will be shared and hands-on demos of various equipment. $25 registration, lunch provided. The deadline to register and also to cancel with a full refund is 5 pm on Friday, September 2, 2016. Documentary on Dark Store issue showing at Peter White Public Library

Maybe you have heard of Every Child Ready to Read, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library or 1000 Books Before Kindergarten, but but you have no idea which one of these programs might work in your library or how to get one of them started. Maybe you've tried a program but you're floundering and need a boost? Join the Children's & Teen Services Committee from the Woodlands Library Cooperative as they present *Multiple Choice: Finding an Early Literacy Partner*. We will explore these three early literacy initiatives, all of which are happening in Michigan libraries. In an exciting new venture, the Woodlands is offering the same workshop in three different locations, all in our service area. It all started with a call from Dearborn Public Library and local area Big Read partners and sponsors for Poe inspired stories and poetry, as part of our community-wide celebration of Edgar Allan Poe. We received about 240 entries. The result is this book entailing "dreams (and nightmares), ghost stories, horror, madness, mystery, imagination, and even some humor."
