Genesee District Library Receives Big Read Grant.

I'm pleased to announce that the Genesee District Library is been awarded a NEA Big Read grant of $14,000 for 2016-2017, selecting Jack London’s The Call of the Wild. Our kick-off events will feature Creek Stewart, survivalist expert from the Weather Channel’s Fat Guy in the Woods, speaking at two branches on Saturday, September 24th<x-apple-data-detectors://37>.<x-apple-data-detectors://37> Other programming will include Michael Oakes, a Jack London expert and impersonator, along with various national wolf and dog experts. We are grateful for our partnerships with the Davison Middle School and Grand Blanc West Middle School which have committed to having their 6th and 7thgrade classes read The Call of the Wild in the fall. In addition, our partnership with the Flint Youth Theater means that over 800 students will engage with the classic through reading, listening to and experiencing a theatrical interpretation of the classic. Hi all, Whether it's asked for as literary criticism or literary analysis, students need to find authoritative resources to support their research on assigned reading authors and specific works. Digitizing services

Hi all; Through generous memorials in honor of our long-time librarian, Robin Haynes, we are starting a digitizing project. We hope to digitize our small collection of photos, documents, letters, etc., and to borrow items from our community to include, too. We will also be purchasing microfilm copies of our newspapers to be digitized and added to the project. It is our hope to be able to offer an online searchable database once our collection is digitized. If your library has a project (either completed or in-process), we would love to hear from you! We are looking for names and contact info for companies who can do both the digitizing and the online database. We would also love to hear any advice you have concerning this process. Hello - We have a paperback book rack available free to good home. Must be able to pick up in Galesburg. Details below and pictures attached. Please contact me by return email or by phone if interested. Thank you for looking. ----------------------------------- This metal and plastic book rack is perfect for displaying paperback books. Each unit has 6 shelves which are divided into 4 sections. Each of the shelves can hold 20 - 25 books (or more, depending on thickness of books). Total capacity = 480 - 500 books (again, depending on the size of the books). This rack is in excellent condition. It is quite heavy, but easy to transport as each unit detaches from the central pole. Must be able to pick-up from Galesburg.
