GROUP CAN HELP WITH SOLITARY PASTIME HELP FOR FAMILY TREE RESEARCH IN SECOND ANNUAL SEMINAR Researching your family tree can be a lonely vocation: just you, your ancestors, and lists of shuffled names and dates. Help us help you! Come to the second annual genealogy seminar at the Pinckney Community Public Library, _Putting the Puzzle Together. _This full-day workshop will take place Saturday, April 16, 2016, at the Library. It features respected speaker Katherine R. Willson. She is expert at the historical population trends in Michigan that can challenge even seasoned family tree researchers. She will present a series of four selected talks including "Filling out Your Family Tree without Breaking the Bank," "Little-Known and Rarely-Used Google Resources and Search Tips," "Seeking Dead People: Getting the Most from Cemetery Research Online & in Person," and the intriguing "They Didn't All Come through Ellis Island." No matter where you are in your research - just starting out, stumped at a missing name, or expanding to new generations - information provided through this seminar will help you out. The day's schedule includes planned discussion sessions and networking breaks. Bring your questions and the family names you are seeking. Looking to Borrow an Outdoor Return Bin

Hello, The East Lansing Public Library is looking to borrow an outdoor, portable, lockable return bin from May 1, 2016-October 1, 2016. We are in the middle of a renovation and come May, we will not have any access to the part of the library where our outside return bins (attached to the building itself) are kept and were hoping to use a self-contained unit that someone had lying around :-) We would be willing to pick up the unit. Unattended Children Policies

We are in a very walkable, low-crime community, so we have many children who walk to the library alone. We settled on 9+ as the age when they can be unattended, and 12+ to be the "assigned chaperone" for children under 9. Here is our current Unattended Children policy. ~Responsibility for the welfare and the behavior of children using the library rests with the parent/guardian or an assigned chaperone. Though staff will always respond with care and concern, they cannot assume responsibility for children's safety and comfort when they are unattended. Staff may need to contact authorities such as the Police either to assist with the enforcement of discipline in the library or to ensure the safety of an unattended child. Young children should be attended and adequately supervised by a parent, guardian, or caregiver who is a responsible person of at least twelve years of age. Older children may use the library unattended provided they are able to maintain proper library behavior. And from our Library Rules of Conduct policy. ~YOUNG CHILDREN IN THE LIBRARY Parents or guardians are at all times responsible for the supervision of their children. Children 8 years or younger should be attended and adequately supervised by a parent, guardian, or caregiver who is a responsible person of at least twelve years of age. This is to prevent accidental injury, avoid disturbance to other Library patrons and prevent any damage to Library property. Per the Unattended Child Policy: "Staff may need to contact authorities such as the Police either to assist with the enforcement of discipline in the library or to ensure the safety of an unattended child."
