Not your typical storytime...

A sad statistic to share: approximately 1 in 10 children are sexually abused before their 18th birthday. In April of 2015, I was honored to collaborate with the Traverse Bay Children's Advocacy Center to present a storytime for child sexual awareness. To put on this special program we brought in storyteller Jenifer Strauss and musician Miriam Pico. What came out of the collaboration was so great that we all agreed this program needs to be made available to libraries across Michigan. Attached is the flyer (details below, too) and I hope your library will consider booking this very special storytime. LLAMA Mentoring Program

Dear Colleagues, I am writing on behalf of the LLAMA Mentoring Program. As a division of ALA, the Library Leadership and Management Association advances outstanding leadership and management practices in library and information services by encouraging and nurturing individual excellence in current and aspiring library leaders. The mentoring program pairs librarians with leadership experience with librarians who are interested in becoming leaders. The program runs from the ALA Annual Convention in June to April 30 of the following year. For mentors, it is a chance to pass on your experience and knowledge by working one-on-one with an enthusiastic colleague who is ready to learn and benefit from your experience. For mentees, it is a great opportunity to learn from an accomplished leader how to: * explore your leadership potential * demonstrate leadership in your current position * acquire the skills, attitudes and relationships that you will need to move into leadership roles. Participants must be ALA and LLAMA members as of the start of the program, and must either attend the Mentor/Mentee orientation at ALA Annual or be able to participate in a virtual orientation at a time to be determined. Your involvement and activity within LLAMA means you would have a lot to offer a newer librarian. I'm asking you to consider signing up as Mentor. We received over 60 applications from mentees, but only 30 mentor applications. New Every Child Ready to Read - What are the Basics webinar March 8th!

For those wondering about the Every Child Ready to Read program, you can attend a webinar on March 8th at 2 pm to hear about the basics from Sue McCleaf Nespeca before the full day workshops at the end of the month. See the registration link and more information on the workshops and webinars. ___________________________________ The Library of Michigan is pleased to provide an in-depth Every Child Ready to Read program through 2016 and 2017. The program will include workshops, webinars, newsletters and materials. We are kicking off the program with a full day workshop with Sue Nespeca of Kid Lit Plus Consulting. The workshop will be an introduction to the program content and goals. An agenda will be forthcoming. The workshop will be held in three locations in March. The specific locations are: Tuesday, March 29th - Southfield Public Library Wednesday, March 30th - Kentwood Branch Library Thursday, March 31st - Traverse City District Library Cost for this workshop is $35 and includes a morning snack and lunch. Roscommon needs shelving/bookcases

Hello all! I've never tried using the Michlib-L email blast so let's see how this works. Roscommon has a small library branch that needs new bookcases. If anyone has any extra bookcases, I need some that are 7 feet tall, 4 feet wide, and 1 foot deep or close to those measurements I'm not a carpenter so that might be the incorrect language. The event will be held in Indianapolis, IN at the Sheraton Indianapolis at Keystone Crossing. This conference is an opportunity for individuals working in resource sharing to gather information and communicate with other colleagues. We invite you to submit a program proposal for this year's conference. The deadline has been extended to February 12, 2016. Accepted program proposal submissions should be 45 minutes in length, including time for questions.
