Library of Michigan - Five Year Plan Evaluation Focus Group meetings coming up!

Good afternoon, the Library of Michigan is beginning an evaluation of our Five Year Plan for the use of LSTA funds. As part of the evaluation, we will be doing focus group meetings with library staff and library patrons in November, to accompany the survey results from our recently completed library staff and patron surveys. We are working with Growth Management Consultants to conduct the evaluation and their staff will do the meetings around the state. The meetings will be approximately 2 hours and the agenda will be a discussion of library services and programs in the state, especially the impact of the LSTA funded ones like MeLCat and the databases. We will be posting a survey next week with the dates and sites for the focus groups. Please consider signing up to participate. Circulation Software Inquiry

Hello all! I'm helping out my hometown school with trying to find an inexpensive circulation software solution for their media center. Currently they are on Follett, but are being asked to move to Destiny, which is a bit out of their price range (however, they do love the Follett system). Can anyone recommend anything in the way of a cheaper replacement or even one that has no annual fees for upkeep if you purchase up front? They are a smaller school with approximately 350 students total all housed in one building. Thanks in advance! We are seeking an energetic & enthusiastic person with experience with children’s programming and a love and dedication for children’s librarianship. We are a small library in a growing community in southwest Oakland County . Must have a good sense of humor and customer service philosophy. Typical Duties * Contributes to the overall effectiveness of providing direct service to patrons * Plans, promotes and implements all Youth programming ages 0-17 including Summer Reading Program * Collection development, evaluation and weeding of youth collections, including books, magazines, audio books, DVDs & videos, CDs & databases * Provides reference and readers advisory to all ages * Conduct computer based instruction and homework help * Prepares displays * Attends monthly staff meetings * Actively promotes the library in the community and represents the library at community events * Gives presentations to school and community groups * Submits relevant information for the library website, flyers and brochures * Orders supplies for programs and services relevant to Youth Services * Participates in fundraising activities for the library Required Qualifications and Abilities * MLIS from an ALA accredited University * Course work and concentration in youth and children’s services * Knowledge of age appropriate programs 0-17 years * Knowledge of print and electronic resources and materials for youth * Knowledge of library automation systems * Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public; and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers * Ability to make decisions in accordance with library policies and procedures * Ability to think analytically and to develop new procedures for more efficient work flow * Knowledge of standard office and library machines (i.e. photocopier, fax machine, printers) * Familiarity with current technology and electronic sources of information. * Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. * Excellent understanding of library policies, procedures, philosophy and public service values. * Ability to maintain composure in stressful work situation.
