Michigan libraries have requested approximately 5,000 copies of the 2026 book for our Smart Money Kids Read program to date -- and has capacity to give a lot more! Participating libraries agree to provide money-themed children's programming during Financial Literacy Month, April 1-30, 2025, utilizing How Do You Spend? for our SMKR program, supplemented by fun, age-appropriate programming. Librarians are so creative! Most libraries do in-person story time events, using our chosen book, along with coloring sheets, finger puppet plays, songs, rhymes, crafts, and more! Consider partnering with a local credit union on these events as well! Michigan credit unions not only provide funding for the Smart Money Kids Read program, but also enjoy participating in, and helping to provide program support, for such youth events. This year's book is Cinders McLeod's How Do YOU Spend? If your library has already submitted your request for free books for kids, please do not submit another as it makes things very confusing! Call for Proposals Creating a Blueprint for Accessible Digital Preservation: Learnings from the Michigan Digital Preservation Network’s IMLS Grant Activities A Symposium The Michigan Digital Preservation Network (MDPN) is accepting session proposals for an upcoming symposium to share learnings from our Institute for Museum and Libraries Services National Leadership Grant, “Demonstrating and Documenting a Statewide LOCKSS 2.0 Preservation Network for Cultural Memory Institutions,” which will be held March 26, 2026 at the Library of Michigan in Lansing, MI. This symposium serves as one of the deliverables of the grant project, which sought to build a replicable model for a statewide or regional digital preservation network. Podcasting

Hello. I am the new Director with the Bridgman Public Library. We will be celebrating our 60th birthday next year and are already brainstorming ways to get our patrons involved in the event. One suggestion was setting up a space for them to come in and share stories about the library with us...maybe how they came in as children and now as adults, or how they participated in the gardening group and learned much about growing veggies, etc. We were thinking a podcasting space might be useful for this - and for other opportunities, too. Does anyone have a space like this in their library, and if so, what helpful hints and ideas might you share? Thank you, Terri

Applications are now being accepted for the fifth round of the Stephen T.
