Maybe you have heard of Every Child Ready to Read, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library or 1000 Books Before Kindergarten, but but you have no idea which one of these programs might work in your library or how to get one of them started. Maybe you've tried a program but you're floundering and need a boost? Join the Children's & Teen Services Committee from the Woodlands Library Cooperative as they present *Multiple Choice: Finding an Early Literacy Partner*. We will explore these three early literacy initiatives, all of which are happening in Michigan libraries. Associate University Librarian-UC Santa Barbara Lead the UCSB Library Scholarly Resources & Content Strategies programs and explore new strategies providing scholarly information to support research and teaching missions; increase the visibility of the Library's distinctive collections and their research value; align resources with the UCSB's campus's teaching and research mission; and facilitate discovery and use of data created and published by UCSB researchers and scholars. The <http://www.ucsb.edu/> University of California, Santa Barbara, one of ten campuses of the University of California system, seeks a successful Associate University Librarian (AUL) who will provide leadership and program oversight of key programs and services committed to the activities of UCSB researches and scholars. The AUL will set library-wide policy for collection development, data curation, digitization initiatives, scholarly communications, licensing, acquisitions, and preservation. Teamwork is essential-the chosen candidate will work collaboratively with faculty, subject librarians, collections staff, the California Digital Library (to provide access to electronic resources meeting the UCSB's needs), sister UC campuses and other cooperative partners. The AUL will convene ad hoc or functional groups to work creatively together with all staff engaged in collection issues. A key new project will be exploring new ways to strengthen collaborative collection development, shared collections, and c-investments for content needed by UCSB researchers and scholars. The AUL shares decision making authority for personnel actions, resource management, and policy development. The AUL also represents the Library in the appropriate University, regional and national bodies and contributes through publications, formal presentations, and professional participation. Qualifications. Required qualifications include: an ALA-accredited MLIS or equivalent degree with relevant experience; significant work experience in an academic research library; demonstrated understanding of building research collections; demonstrated leadership fostering partnerships; demonstrated understanding of scholarly communication issues and new models shaping future publishing; proven management experience in a complex, multi-functional library; superior interpersonal skills and team builder; ability to work in a diverse setting with diverse staff and campus communities; a strong commitment to staff development; and superior analytical and problem solving skills. Preferred qualifications include: a second Master's degree and/or Doctorate; playing a responsible role in acquisitions and collections; experience with digital scholarship, data-intensive research support, data curation, and digital initiatives and preservation; library fundraising efforts, and a significant record of publications and/or presentation experience. Labeling question: continuing series after original author has died

Hello, A lot of authors of popular series have died (Robert B. Parker in particular) and other writers have picked up the deceased author's series and continued to write it. Looking at our catalog, it looks like half of the libraries are under the original series author and half are under the new author's name. Currently, ours are strictly under the author's last name but they are numbered as part of the same series. However, I am considering putting them under the series author instead of the book author and I wanted to know what other libraries are doing... How are you cataloging these new additions to the series? Are you putting it under the new author in the fiction section because they are technically the author of the books and patrons might discover other books by that author at the same time? Or are you putting it under the original author that created the series because patrons would expect to find the whole series in the same section? Or are you putting the whole series under the series title to keep them together? Or are you doing something completely different? Over 5,000 people showed up to help eat their 1,832’ long sundae. And their Facebook event drew so muchattention, the company sent a camera crew to film the day. To date, their Facebook Stories video hasbeen viewed over a half a million times. Unbeknownst to the Nashville Route 66 Business District, theplanners behind the event, a town in New Zealand had recently made an attemptand, sadly, theirs was longer. Not to bedeterred from holding a title, the Nashville business group claimed the titleof “Longest Sundae in the U.S.A.” That record was broken early this summer inLudington with a 2,970’ sundae. The small village, located approximately 30 minutes fromLansing, Kalamazoo, and Grand Rapids is not easily deterred and plans to createa sundae twice as long as last year’s attempt. They will again need lots of ice cream eaters and are inviting everyoneto help them break the world record for the longest ice cream sundae. The event will take place Saturday, September17 with spoons dipping in at exactly noon. Should the weather be glum, the attempt willhappen at 6 pm. Souvenir 2016 color-changing spoons commemorating the eventwill be available to participants for $2 each if purchased in advance or $3each the day of the event. “Last year’s event started out about breaking a world recordand inviting people to visit our village,” said Shauna Lea Swantek, PutnamDistrict Library’s director and Route 66 board member. “It ended up accomplishing that and more. It showed how well this community workstogether and supports each other. We’vehad a year full of other successes, such as reviving Sandyland, our outdoorevent venue, and officially breaking the world record featuring MOO-ville icecream will be the cherry on top!” Sandyland, a regionally famous music venue in the lateseventies and early eighties, was brought back to life early this summer with alarge outdoor concert hosted by the business group. Music will also be part of the day’sactivities on September 17 in Nashville. At 3 pm, area churches will come together at Sandyland for a localChristian concert. The public is invitedto bring their blankets and lawn chairs. A goodwill offering will be taken. To break the record, the downtown portion of M-66 will beclosed down and the project team will be using over 220 eight foot tables and alot of ice cream and toppings.
