The Clinton-Macomb Public Library is looking to hire multiple new substitute librarians to work at any of our locations (Main Library: Adult Nonfiction, Children's Services, Popular Materials; North Branch Reference, South Branch Reference). This is also a great opportunity for students who are close to completion of their MSI degree and want an opportunity to gain field experience in a thriving public library. All, The 2015 editions of the Michigan Energy Code and the Michigan Residential Code were filed with the Michigan Secretary of State on Friday, October 9, 2015. Both will go into effect on February 8, 2016. We are now offering both code books for bulk purchase by libraries. TLN will order, ship via either TLN or RIDES delivery, and invoice with your shipment. Please note that TLN may assess a $1.00 per book charge in order to help offset our cost for providing this service. Howdy! When we put out a call last month for libraries to host our Making in Michigan Libraries PD Summer Road trip, we were stunned by the number of interested libraries. We're still working on reviewing the proposals, but we now know that the hunger for making is as big in Michigan as we anticipated! So to help jumpstart your maker activities (or to build on what you are already doing), we will be hosting an online "Maker Office Hours" on Friday evening, December 4, from 5:30 - 6:30pm. We'll be 'broadcasting' from the Ann Arbor District Library's Secret Lab (so if you're local, feel free to join us face-to-face) in the basement of the downtown branch. Login details are below. We'll start by sharing about ten minutes of strategies about establishing the Big Picture goals of your making, then open up the floor for the rest of the hour for your questions and ideas about making. Action Alert from ALA . . . ________________________________ Action Alert: School libraries are in! After years of needing reform to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), we are on the cusp of getting it. The final language of the Every Student Succeeds Act has been released and school libraries are included in many important ways! BUT, we're not there yet! The House is scheduled to vote on the Every Student Succeeds Act later this week and passage is most definitely not guaranteed. Please, take a moment to take two vital actions: 1. Contact your Representative to let them know how essential this bill is to our children's education and futures. 2. Contact absolutely everyone you know and ask them to do the same thing. Talking points · Vote Yes on the Every Student Succeeds Act Conference Report. · School libraries are critical to our children's future and the Conference Report includes critical language to support effective school library programs. · This language is historic: For the first time in half a century Congress has underscored the importance of effective school library programs by expressly including them in multiple parts of this watershed reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Hi everyone, We currently use Adobe InDesign to create our quarterly newsletter which is then printed and distributed to our service population by post. I'm curious as to what programs other libraries in Michigan use for this process; if you use a program other than InDesign, please let me know what it is, whether you find it easy to use or not, and whether your local printer has issues working with the file type it produces. If you no longer send out a print newsletter or work with a company who does yours for you, I'd be interested in that information too. I'll be sure to share a summary of my findings back to the list.
