The Clinton-Macomb Public Library is looking to hire multiple new substitute librarians to work at any of our locations (Main Library: Adult Nonfiction, Children's Services, Popular Materials; North Branch Reference, South Branch Reference). This is also a great opportunity for students who are close to completion of their MSI degree and want an opportunity to gain field experience in a thriving public library. Registration for the 2014 Beginning Workshop is now open at http://www.solutionwhere.com/lom/cw/CourseByAlpha.asp. The Library of Michigan's Beginning Workshop is a 3-day event geared for library staff members that have not had the opportunity for formal library coursework. Its aim is to introduce library staff to a variety of topics and offer them practical skills that they can use working in a Michigan public library. Anyone new to the profession or just hired at a library, no matter what their academic credentials, is welcome to attend the event. For those seeking an initial Level 3 or Level 4 certificate from the Library of Michigan attendance at the entire Beginning Workshop is obligatory. Project Increasing Diversity of Libraries (IDOL) Now Accepting Applications!

The School of Library and Information Science is accepting applications for its Project Increasing Diversity of Librarians (IDOL) Fall 2014 cohort. Applications will be accepted from February 1 – June 1. Project IDOL Fellows will receive full tuition for their MLIS degree, to be completed within 2 years, as well as the advisory support of individual mentors, and additional funds for books, conference travel and a personal computer. Project IDOL is a collaboration between the Wayne State University School of Library and Information Science and the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Library Alliance . WSU SLIS and the HBCU Library Alliance have received funding from the IMLS Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program to increase the diversity of the library profession. In this 3-year project, the two partner organizations will recruit, mentor, and offer an online Master of Library and Information Science degree to 10 students from historically underrepresented groups in order to achieve greater diversity among practicing library professionals. SLIS will provide the education and the HBCU library alliance will assist with recruitment and retention through mentorship of the selected students by library professionals with senior level experience and prior mentorship training. The 2014 Technology & Trends workshop will introduce attendees to new and useful library technologies in several breakout sessions on a variety of technologically inspired topics, which are designed to inform and educate. Dear library colleagues, We would like to invite you, your staff & board members, and your community to attend the third session of our four-part Genealogy Series called: "A Bridge to the Past" on SATURDAY, MAY 3RD at 10:30AM. (Sponsored by the Friends of the Pinckney Library.) This third session is entitled: WHAT ARE GENEALOGY WEBINARS?--During the first part of this session, our presenter will explain what webinars are and how genealogists and researchers can use them as a great tool for learning more about your family or local history. How to find useful webinars and how to participate in them will also be covered. During the second part of the program, participants are given time to work together and help with attendees' personal research questions or "brick walls" they might have encountered in their research. There will be time for group help and brainstorming during each session. These workshops are free to the general public and refreshments will be served. We currently use a self-created and maintained database of the streets in our library district to be used when registering new patrons. This is cumbersome to maintain as we have to use USPS or other sites to see where new plats and divisions and streets are located.
