Try checking with your local county jail to see if they could accept your paperback leftovers. Ours was very thankful for some. They weren't able to take any hardcovers but at least some of the extras got taken. Would love to get CC'ed on county jails interested in receiving books. If any of you are compiling a list, please share the results. I am sure the members of the Upper Peninsula Publishers & Authors Association (UPPAA.org) would participate in book donations to lockups. thanks Victor

Hello, Victor and Friends, I once established a partnership with the librarian at Thumb Correctional Facility in Lapeer. They may be interested or could potentially place you in touch with another Corrections facility. They'll have a selective list of books, themes, and genres that are deemed allowable for their patrons. Best of luck! Warm wishes for your Wednesday, Sherrema A. We found two local children's organizations that gladly took all of our non-religious children's books and for adult books there is a group that holds a huge book sale every spring, taking over an entire shopping mall, that takes anything. However, they have very limited drop off days/times/months so we sometimes resort to recycling. :\ Deb Hemmye Library Director Huntington Woods Public Library 26415 Scotia Road Huntington Woods, MI 48070 248-543-9720, ext. 686 Currently reading The Fifth Season, by N. Any local little free libraries? https://littlefreelibrary.org/map/ We also utilize Amazon to sell our donations that are “high ticket” materials and broke up with betterworld (and places like thrift books) since they just do that for you and only cut you a percentage. I realized how much books we gave away to BetterWorld but we never met their quotas and never got the money. So many weeded books, the unfortunate few that were pristine… ☹ I digress. Local free libraries are how we purge things, like reverse criminals. Sometime left without a trace to us. Hey everyone, here at Romulus after a few book sales our Friends of the Romulus Public Library put items on a cart in our vestibule that are free to take. These are the books that after a few sales just couldn't be sold. That cart is empty by the following week. People love free things. I would suggest perhaps using a "free cart." The only issue that sometimes comes up is getting them back in returns. We moved it to the vestibule because people also assumed all books near the cart were free. So I would definitely be careful if you use one. Once we relocated the cart we really haven't had many issues with it. The patrons love it as well. It also hasn't deterred book sales either. The friends have also donated used books to local daycares (children's books) and also to local shelters (all age books). Hope that helps!
