I thought that I would share the very sad news with the wider library community as many knew Lisa Brakel. Lisa's obituary: https://www.urbanskifuneralhome.com/obituaries/lisa-brakel There will be a visitation time on Friday, September 4 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Urbanski Funeral Home, 5055 Secor Road, Toledo, OH. The funeral will be on Saturday, September 5 starting at 10:30 with visitation starting at 9:30 a.m. The funeral will be held at Epworth United Methodist Church, 4855 W. Central Avenue, Toledo, OH. Lisa is a past-president of the Michigan Association of School Librarians, a former board member of the American Association of School Librarians, a former board member of MCLS, and so much more! She was a kind, generous, and positive soul with a wonderful sense of humor. She was a mentor to many in the school library community and was loved by so many that were privileged to know her -- including me. We will miss her dearly. --Kathy Kathy Lester, MLIS, MA Adjunct Faculty,* Wayne State University, School of Information Sciences* School Library Consultant, *Kent ISD* Advocacy Co-Chair, Past-President 2014, *Michigan Association of School Librarians (MASL)* Past-President, 2022-2023, *American Association of School Librarians (AASL)* Retired School Library Media Specialist / Technology Coach, *Plymouth-Canton Community Schools* *SL21 Model Library, 2017-2018SL21 Exemplary Ranking - Michigan School Libraries for the 21st Century 2013-2022ISTE Making IT Happen Award Winner2017 MAME Michigan School Library Program of the Year2012 State Librarian's Excellence Award Winner* kathyL <kathyL@mimasl.org>@mimasl.org <kathyL@mimasl.org> "Every school librarian is a leader; every learner has a school librarian" --American Association of School Librarians <https://www.ala.org/sites/default/files/aasl/content/advocacy/statements/docs/AASL_Position_Statement_Effective_SLP_2018.pdf> (AASL)
