For Facebook, Newsletters, Email or Websites: Secretary of State upgrading decades-old computer system for vehicle records during Presidents Day weekend closure The Michigan Department of State is replacing its decades-old vehicle records system with CARS, a modern computer system to better serve millions of customers. CARS arrives Feb. 19. CARS will enhance services for Michigan residents by adding new online options, improving existing online and kiosk services, and giving staff in Secretary of State branch offices a more efficient tool to look up vehicle information and process transactions. During the upgrade, SOS offices, online services and auto business transactions will be taken offline and unavailable from 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, to 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19 (Presidents Day weekend). Self-service kiosks will be taken offline in phases beginning Friday, Feb. 8.
