We're looking to purchase the "TV-looking" screens for informational displays. Are they TVs or special computer screens? I would be displaying information about upcoming programs and library services. I've seen them in other libraries, but now that it's time to get them, I don't know what to look for. Can anyone give info on where and what to purchase? Thanks for your help, Perri Saunders, Director White Pigeon Township Library 102 N. Kalamazoo St., P.O. I believe Rochester Library has those screens. Check with them because when we did a tour, I their library uses it for advertisement as well. We are looking at those too for the new Friends store in our Southfield Library *Yolanda C. We purchased a TV for that as I knew TVs used to have the photo rotation option. However, the newer TVs, it turns out, did away with that option. So, I did a little research and found that a lot of museums (that also love to have rotating digital informational displays) got around that problem by using a Micca Speck. We ordered ours through Amazon for about $40 and it's been fabulous. We update and change out our information on a flash drive that we plug in to the TV and the Micca Speck does the work of the continuous rotation of information. We use 42"-55" monitors (not tv's). You want to purchase one that is made for digital signs, like: https://www.cdwg.com/shop/products/LG-55LS35A-5B-55in-Class-54.64in-viewable... We use a little ASUS eee-pc (a really small computer) and mount them behind the monitors. Most of the PC's are running Linux, but a couple run windows. As far as the messaging on the screen, we run a little web page image gallery on our web server and the screen PC's are just showing that web page. Some monitors now days can do all of this by themselves, but if you put a PC behind the monitor, you can also use the monitor for other uses, like Power Point shows for guest speakers and such. The PC's are remotely turned on by one of our servers through WOL (wake-on-lan). We've been doing it this way for several years now and it's worked out really well. We use a computer monitor as well. Ours is hooked up to an older pc running windows 7 and powerpoint. Staff updates the powerpoint on their computers and then loads the new one to the pc (not hooked up to the network) and we run it in slideshow view. ------------------ Donna Winter, Automation Services Librarian Livonia Civic Center Library 32777 Five Mile Road Livonia, MI 48154 ph: 734-466-2675 ----- Perri Saunders <perri@monroe.lib.mi.us> wrote:
