Board Compensation Question
Just a quick question for everyone. Do the members of your library boards receive any compensation for severing on the library board? And if so how much per meeting? Thank you! Hi Natalie, we are a township library with our own elected library board. There is no compensation our board members, but I would be interested in your responses. We are a class ll and have a newly appointed district library board. One member receives compensation ($50) per meeting but that is their township decision, thus the township pays him for attending. Natalie, I am not a lawyer, but I believe libraries organized under PA 164 of 1877 cannot compensate the Library Board Members. See section 4 (MCL397.204): 397.204 Board of directors; vacancies, compensation. Sec. 4. Vacancies in the board of directors occaisioned by removals, resignation or otherwise, shall be reported to the city council, and be filled in like manner as original appointments, and no director shall receive compensation as such.
