The Ypsilanti District Library has three part-time positions available: Outreach Services Librarian, Outreach Services Para-Professional, and Youth Services Para-Professional - Michigan Avenue Branch (details below). It does. -- William James ** J O B P O S T I N G YPSILANTI DISTRICT LIBRARY Part-Time Outreach Services Librarian II DATE: March 9, 2016 POSITION: Outreach Services Librarian II (.5 FTE, 20 hours per week) NATURE OF WORK: Under the direction of the Head of Outreach Services, fulfills typical duties which may include, but are not limited to: * Delivery of reference, information and reader's advisory services for library patrons of all ages. * Assists patrons in use of computers and other library technology. * Plans, promotes, implements and evaluates storytimes and other library programs. * Develops, maintains and promotes library collections. * Serves on library-wide committees and participates in school outreach activities. * Contributes to the smooth operation of the Navigator bookmobile and YDL - Superior Township. * Other responsibilities may include assignment to subject or service specialty areas. QUALIFICATIONS: * Master's Degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA accredited institution. * Must be eligible for certification according to Library of Michigan personnel standards. * Knowledge of child development and literacy. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. * Strong commitment to customer service. * Ability to function in a professional manner, work independently, and use good judgment. * Flexible and dependable. * Enthusiastic, positive team player. * Experience working with diverse populations. * Knowledge of computers, Internet and emerging technologies. * Demonstrated understanding of philosophies, techniques, and trends in public library service. HOURS: Part-time, 20 hours per week (including regularly scheduled evenings and weekends). SALARY/BENEFITS: Hourly wage starting at $18.63. Pro-rated paid time off and paid holidays. QUALIFICATIONS: * Bachelor's Degree. Public library experience preferred. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. * Strong commitment to public service excellence. * Ability to function in a professional manner, work independently, and use good judgment. * Flexible and dependable. * Enthusiastic, positive team player. * Experience working with diverse populations. * Proficiency in using computers and Internet. * Demonstrated knowledge of library resources and ability to locate library materials. Typical duties may include, but are not limited to: * Supports delivery of reference, information, and reader's advisory services for library patrons of all ages. * Assists patrons in use of computers and other library technology. * Participates in library program planning and implementation for youth. * Assists with collection development projects. * Contributes to the smooth operation of the Michigan Avenue Youth Department. QUALIFICATIONS: * Bachelor's Degree. Formal training in a child-related field or experience working with youth desired. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. * Strong commitment to public service excellence. * Ability to function in a professional manner, work independently, and use good judgment. * Flexible and dependable. * Enthusiastic, positive team player. * Demonstrated ability to work with families and youth from diverse populations. * Proficiency in using computers and Internet. * Strong desire to engage children birth-18, their parents, caregivers and teachers. * Knowledge of children's literature, information resources, and child and adolescent development concepts desired. * Previous successful public library experience desired.
