IRS Tax Forms @ Libraries - As The World Turns

Here's the update I received this a.m. in response to my "what the heck's going on" query. Speaks for itself: Currently, the IRS is considering options concerning the Tax Forms Outlet Program for 2016 and is in the process of making a decision. During this process, we are considering the tax filing data and feedback we received from you last year. We will email updated information to you when it’s available. We will also post the information on TFOP News and Updates Thank youIRS TFOP Administrator Debbie Gallagher

Thought I would take this opportunity to share an interesting exchange we had with the local office of Representative Benishek a couple weeks back. They wanted to do a PR appearance at the library to promote his bill to mail tax forms to everybody who filed a paper form last year. Upon further questions from us, they said it would put an end to the public distribution of forms in libraries, to which we basically replied "are you sure that's a positive thing?" We also thought the choice of venue was rather odd, given that we have been the primary place in Marquette to get tax forms in recent years. Like most libraries, we felt the heat from the public the last couple years because of the uncertainties and tardiness of the tax form program. Bruce A. This is a hard question to answer. I think it really depends on the make up of each community. I believe it would be a plus for us. We have not had paper forms for probably six years now. Mailing to those who look for the paper forms would work well here. But I can see your point Marquette. So I don't think there is an answer that would work for everyone.
