Verification for E-cards
Hello Libraryland, If you allow users to apply for and receive a digital library card (E-card) online, what software or resource do you use to verify their address and phone number, etc.? Also, what information do you collect for application purposes? For the digital library card (E-card), I am thinking of a card number that allows users to have access to online digital resources only, not physical items. The idea is that they never have to come to the library in person to utilize some of our resources. Thank you for your help, Isabella Rowan, MLIS Library Director Phone: 517-223-9089, Ext. 111 130 S. Hi Isabella, Here at the Bloomfield TWP Public Library, we follow the same registration procedure for E-cards that we use for what we call full access library cards. Our primary source for verifying residency, is BS&A. We also require photo ID (even for E-Card registration which we handle via our online application and through our department email account). Since the card is for digital material only, we actually create our own barcode numbers (we have an excel spreadsheet) and our ILS system is what allows us to make it, so E-card holders can only access our digital material. Not sure if this helps at all. If you have questions don't hesitate to contact me.
