"South of Superior," by Ellen Airgood, is the 2018 Battle Creek Reads selection ​ sponsored by Willard Library​ . Airgood will discuss her book, her writing process, and life in the Upper Peninsula ​at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at the Kool Family Community Center, 200 W ​.​ Michigan Ave. in Battle Creek. ​ "South of Superior" was Airgood’s debut novel and was named a Michigan Notable Book in 2012. ​ ​ The novel tells the story of Madeline Stone who leaves her Chicago life to live in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. As she is drawn into the dramas of the small, tight-knit town, Madeline learns that it’s a place where times are tough and debts run deep, but where friendship, community, and compassion run deeper. ​Airgood's books will be for sale ​,​ and she will be signing them.
