We are going to have to reduce our allowable circulations as well! That is the next step we are looking at before we start narrowing the catalog choices. I am also looking into ways to reduce our Hoopla costs. If I can't get it under control, we will need to get rid of it, too. On Tue, Mar 11, 2025, 4:41 PM EMAIL TEAM via Michlib-l <michlib-l@mcls.org> wrote:

Our Hoopla statistics have grown exponentially year over year. I'm not making any immediate changes, but something has to give. On Tue, Mar 11, 2025 at 4:54 PM Sarah Skinner via Michlib-l < michlib-l@mcls.org> wrote:

We are also not discontinuing. However, we have made the following adjustments: * Reduced the number of allowable checkouts per customer; * Stopped emailing people about renewing items they still have; * And just this month, we changed the limit of the allowable cost of instant borrows from $3.99 to $2.84. I am getting complaints from some people, but it is estimated that it will save us a lot of money. I’ll know once I get the March bill. I recently got a new hoopla rep, and I shared my concerns. He did an analysis and found that the reduction in the cost of instant borrows will make a significant difference (the last bullet). We're not discontinuing yet either, but recently made these changes: Reduced our number of checkouts allowed per patron Reduced our instant borrows cost limit Set a monthly budget cap in our Hoopla account We have had patrons call and ask about their borrowing, and so far everyone has been very understanding about our overall budget limitations. We just implemented these changes at the beginning of this month, so we shall see... Interesting question you ask, our circulation has grown tremendously with Hoopla over the year, and although the prices have increased, we have simply reallocated funding from our print materials (which has decreased) to cover the growing use of our digital materials. We will determine if we need to make changes with Hoopla and the midyear point. Hi all, This is an incredibly popular service that has seen steady growth in our community over more than a decade. It will become unsustainable without adjustments, so we are managing it carefully. In 2026, we will likely reduce the borrowing limit and may bring back price caps (2.99 for all content except Binge Passes), which we had used previously. Our hoopla rep has been helpful in identifying the ROI on each measure, so we can make informed choices. Our aim is some reductions for "super users" while continuing to serve the broader audience and avoiding sending too much traffic to Libby in a way that creates massive waitlists or similar costs to keep up with demand. Our library only had it through our Co-Op, so we have since stopped offering it, with Libby stats increasing. Though I think it might skew your answers depending on the class libraries you are getting responses from. I know my library could not afford or justify to continue it because my streams of income vary greatly from the class 4-6’s libraries.
