We're class II, but I'm interested in all sizes of libraries: What percentage of your total budget accounts for wages and benefits? I want to stay in line with the norm, but I don't know what the norm is. Thanks so much, Perri -- Perri Saunders, Director White Pigeon Township Library 102 N. Kalamazoo St., P.O. Perri, We are a Class V library and I try to stay between 50-60% of revenues. For my 2022-23 budget (beginning July 1) it is 55%. I have been keeping track of Personnel Costs and other costs over the years for comparisons from year to year. WOW! Thank you all for your responses and comments! I got about 20 responses from all different classes - they ranged from 46.6% to 75%. Joe Hamlin also sent a spreadsheet from the 2020-2021 state aid reports (attached). The average of all libraries was 61.3% for that year. Thanks Joe! Have a great day everyone! Perri,Joe Hamlin (517-335-1501) at Library of Michigan has the exact percentage, but if memory serves, statewide the average is 64% of a public library's budget is spent on the sum of all staffing expenses.
