Hello! Are you a Michigan library director, board member, or friends group member? Have you ever faced questions involving the law and how it relates to Michigan libraries? Questions like: If a Friends group member volunteered to dress in an inflatable T-Rex costume and hand out goodies to participants during the library's Summer Reading Kickoff, and during the outdoor event, it starts to rain, and before the event can be moved inside, the volunteer T-Rex comes in contact with a metal tent pole at exactly the same time lightning strikes the tent, and the volunteer is rendered unconscious for a few moments, but emerges unscathed from the experience, is the incident covered by workers compensation, or would the fact that the incident was the result of an "act of God" exempt the imposition of workers compensation? Would the volunteer be eligible for Workers Compensation? Could the library claim the cost of the tent and the interrupted event under their insurance, or is that also precluded under an "act of God" exemption?
