Well it is a Library Director with your own office in the library (with a whole wall of floor to ceiling windows) and a small percentage of the job is overseeing the administration side of the tutoring service. The job description has a lot of HR speak in it, so if you have any questions about anything, I would be happy to answer them. Who are we looking for? Ideally, someone with library director experience in academia. If you have experience with community colleges, that is a huge plus. We are located in Dearborn, so we have a lot of immigrant and first generation students and we are very much a Community type of college. We are experienced in librarianship, but we are looking for a captain for this ship. The previous library director moved on to a new library in 2024 and we have the Dean of Liberal Arts in charge for almost 2 years. While we value Brad and appreciate his work, we are ready to have a Librarian back steering us forward. (I think I have exhausted this ship metaphor, so let's move on!) Yeah, but what is it like there? Well we are a staff of 9 (5 full time and 4 part time employees) plus a rotating cast of student workers. The Learning Lab has a staff of 3 full time and 2 part time employees, with a rotating cast of students workers and faculty tutors. HFC has 4 different unions, and the Library Director would be a member of Local 71. The Director understands how community college learners use information, applying best practices for the teaching of information literacy to enhance students’ abilities to access and apply knowledge through various tools and approaches to learning.
