Position Summary Under the supervision of the Public Experience & Desk Service Associate Director, the Library Technician assists with the implementation of the Library’s system-wide events efforts. The Technician will write and proofread written and online event information, assist AADL staff throughout the system with event details, work with outside organizations and speakers to successfully produce AADL events, maintain event statistics, and develop and host individual events that appeal to the community. The Library Technician will also handle room bookings from outside organizations and the corresponding customer service. This position will be required to work evenings and weekend hours as part of the regular work schedule. Requirements Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following; other duties as assigned: * Writes and proofreads Library event print and digital information. * Reserves meeting rooms for outside organizations in the events database, and handles all correspondence associated with room bookings. * Assists in maintaining current event information on the AADL website, both for external promotion and internal set-up and payment needs, with a strong attention to detail. * Assists with the logistics and organization of AADL public events including speaker payments, room set-up information, hotel and travel arrangements, scheduling local booksellers for author events, arranging for catering for receptions, and other event details. * Assists AADL staff with planning and scheduling of public events. * Maintains statistics related to Library programming efforts. * Creates events for the community, and serves as a host for these events and other events created by AADL staff, especially those events that center traditionally underserved audiences. * Assists with the coordination of the AADL summer game shop, prize distribution, and event codes. * Assists with planning large, special events in collaboration with other library staff. * Serves on departmental and system-wide teams and delivers related action items on schedule. Minimum Qualifications include: * Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; or one to two year’s related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong editing, grammar, and proofreading skills. * Ability to organize work, set priorities and handle multiple tasks while maintaining strong attention to detail. Must be flexible and willing to work in situations with multiple deadlines. * Skilled in utilizing a variety of office software applications (including database and Microsoft Office applications). * One to two years’ experience providing direct customer service. * Experience blogging and contributing to an Online Content Management System. * Positive attitude and strong public service commitment. * Strong interpersonal and team player skills. Preferred Qualifications include: * Successful experience providing direct customer service in a public library setting. * Proven experience hosting events for all ages. * Fluency in one or more non-English languages. * Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in English, journalism or a related field.
