Hi all! Just a friendly reminder for libraries using the locking DVD cases....to check that they're unlocked before sending them on their ILL journeys! We've gotten a few in the past couple of weeks, and one little boy who was sooo disappointed he couldn't watch his movie! Thanks, and have a great weekend! Marian VolekWest Iron District LibraryIron River, Michigan

I've found that a hacksaw works on most security cases. Many of them can be unlocked with a simple magnet. Connie On Fri, Oct 26, 2018 at 12:09 PM Lissa Potter via Michlib-l < michlib-l@mcls.org> wrote:

The hacksaw wasn't an option for the patron with the little boy...she drives back home to get an overdue book that has a 5 cent fine! I did not know about the magnet trick; but it begs the question, what is the security benefit of these cases? We're wondering, because we're looking into some alternatives to storing discs in machines or drawers. (We're running out of room!)
