Compilation of replies: 1) I called the business number available online and an agent talked me through it and set it up. Very easy. 2) You can find information to sign up here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/taxExemption?ie=UTF8&ref_=ya_atepplus 3) did this yesterday. I just went through Amazon's preformatted sales tax exemption procedure. It is under Your Account>>Settings>>Amazon Tax Exemption Program and enter your password. You can either upload the State form or walk through Amazon's steps. If filled it out yesterday and is is already active. I haven't ordered yet and I think there is some caveat language that the Amazon certificate doesn't carry over to third party providers. Michigan Libraries - Amazon will start charging sales tax in Michigan on October 1. If you have let them know of your state sales tax exemption, what was the procedure? Do they require a mailed document? Can you just tell them the tax exemption number? Helen

Related to the conversation about Amazon charging sales tax, I was informed by one of their third party sellers (whom we've frequently purchased from in the past) that they "do not offer tax-exempt shipments to states that require us to collect sales tax." The representative suggested I submit the invoice to our local tax agency (i.e. the State of Michigan) for reimbursement. The order was fulfilled by Motor City Books, but the customer service representative who replied to my email had all of the following resellers in his/her signature line: Thrift Books | Green Earth Books | Motor City Books | Atlanta Book Company | Blue Cloud Books | Yankee Clipper Books | Books Squared | Silver Arch Books | Free State Books | Sierra Nevada Books.
