cid:image002.jpg@01D0250E.A301ABF0 Michigan History Magazine Receives Honorable Mention at Eddie and Ozzie Awards Banquet On Tuesday, October 9, 2018, Michigan History magazine was recognized as a honorable mention at this year's Folio: Eddie & Ozzie Awards, a prestigious publishing awards program. The annual program recognizes the very best in editorial and design and is the most comprehensive of its kind in the industry. In August 2018, the January/February 2018 issue of Michigan History was named one of three finalists for a "Full Issue" Eddie Award in the category of "City & Regional-Midwest." On October 9, Executive Director and CEO Larry J. Wagenaar attended the awards gala in New York City to accept the recognition on behalf of HSM. Jeep Goes to War In 1940, Karl Probst of Detroit designed a new army scouting car in only two days. The Willys-Overland Company built jeeps, but the army needed so many that Ford Motor Company began to build them, too, and ended up producing 640,000 wartime Jeeps. No one knows how the World War II "Jeep" got its name, but it might be named for the Popeye comic strip character "Eugene the Jeep" or from the Army initials "GP," which stands for "General Purpose."
