Hello All, We have a patron at BRCL that has been donating board games to the library. They are all brand new but we don't exactally know what to do with them. Do any libraries check out board games to patrons or do you have them available in the library for patrons to play? Any ideas of what to do with these would be nice! Thanks, Miriam Andrus, Director Big Rapids Community Library 426 S. Hi Miriam, We use ours for teen programming. The teens love it. Snacks and friendly competition! Hi Miriam, You can find information about using board games for programming on WebJunction, http://www.webjunction.org/news/webjunction/board-in-the-library-part-six.ht... This link is to the last part of a 6 part series on games. You can find the others linked at the top of the article. Here is an article about creating a partnership for a program in a public library, http://igd.ala.org/2015/06/02/igd-how-one-public-library-and-local-board-gam... You can find a list of board game related programming at Harris County PL here, http://www.hcpl.net/category/tags/board-games I'm sure others on Michlib will have some great ideas for you. We currently have a collection of 31 games that we circulate and then additional games that we use for game day programs. Our collection has circulated really well since we started the collection in May and we have had really good attendance at our game day programs as well. To make it easier to check in our circulating games, each game has an inventory sheet of all the pieces with photographs of the pieces. That way the staff member checking it can easily see what is supposed to be in the box. I haven't had to worry about replacing a piece yet (*fingers crossed*). Please let me know if you want any more details on how we circulate our games or on our game programs.
