2020 Census and my library

Hi Kathy, My library is currently categorized as a class III library. I think the results of the 2020 census will add enough people to put my library into a a class IV status. I am certified at a level III. My question to you is when will the 2020 census numbers go into effect? FYI, my library's FY year runs June - July. Will I need to obtain an MLS degree to remain library director here to qualify for state aid? I have a MLS library assistant working here but she is not the director. Would that make my library compliant? Or, does the director have to have a level 2 certification? Thanks. -- LaVonne Marshall Director Coopersville Area District Library 616-837-6809 coopersvillelibrary.org

No you’re grandfathered in. If you were to leave your position then the Board would have to hire a director with the MLS. Roger Roger Mendel Director Northland Library Cooperative On Monday, October 28, 2019, OC Lavonne Marshall via Michlib-l < michlib-l@mcls.org> wrote:

Hi Lavonne, yes Roger is right. We talked about this at the Coop Director Orientation last week. Check this out from State Aid Application Process packet, p. 2: ii. A public library that does not comply with personnel requirements due to a change in class level following the application of a decennial census may receive state aid if the personnel continue to present valid certificates and were employed before the library received notification of the change in class level. When a person employed before the change in class level leaves the position, the position shall be filled in accordance with the personnel requirements in order for the library to receive state aid. https://www.michigan.gov/documents/libraryofmichigan/State_Aid_to_Public_Lib...
