The Sterling Heights Public Library has two Part-Time Librarian vacancies. The first is located in Adult Services working mainly with adults and is responsible for the development of our International Language collection. The second position is more general, working with all ages. These positions report to the Service Area Coordinator and are responsible for reference and readers advisory services, collection development activities, instruction in the use of the library and its resources, and in updating and verifying the bibliographic content of the catalog database. The Part-Time Librarians also develop and present programs and provide a high-level of customer service to all library patrons. Adult Services Position - Essential Functions Provides information, reference, and referral services in Adult Services. Selects, evaluates, and weeds materials for the Ann Marie Given International Language collection as well as additional adult non-fiction collections. Provides instruction in the use of print and digital resources. Develops and/or presents programs for adults. General Public Services Position - Essential Functions Provides information, reference, and referral services in Adult and Youth Services. Selects, evaluates, and weeds materials for collection development in various areas of the collection. Provides instruction in the use of print and digital resources. Develops and/or presents programs for children, families and adults. Minimum Requirements Master’s Degree in Library Science from an accredited ALA college or university. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of online databases, reference resources, and public computer applications to assist the general public. Knowledge of tablet and/or mobile devices used for accessing Overdrive, Hoopla, and other digital services. Ability to work a part time schedule including evenings and weekends. Position Pay The starting rate is $25.2942 with 6-month step increases up to $28.4092 and includes 37.5 hours of PTO each year.
