Full-Time Library Director at Crooked Tree District Library Opportunity: Crooked Tree District Library (CTDL) seeks a knowledgeable, motivated, and amiable individual to serve as our next Library Director. CTDL's main library is in Walloon Lake, with a branch seven miles south in Boyne Falls. The area is renowned for its quiet outdoor lifestyle and recreational opportunities, attracting a growing population of visitors year-round. Nearby towns include Petoskey, Charlevoix, and Boyne City, offering a variety of cultural, historic, and recreational venues. CTDL is a Class 2 library serving Melrose and Boyne Valley townships and contract areas of Warner, Hudson, and Chandler townships. According to 2020 Census data, the total service area population - which increases considerably in the summer months - was approximately 5,100. The successful candidate will be a welcoming, knowledgeable, innovative leader who understands the Library and its community and can lead the Library in fulfilling its mission: creating opportunities for the public to communicate ideas and enrich personal lives through a diverse collection of books and electronic materials. Key Expectations: The Library Director serves as the chief executive officer of the Library, reporting directly to the Board of Trustees. The Director is responsible for all library functions, including: * Day-to-day operations * Delivery of library services and programming * Strategic planning and budgeting * Supervision and management functions with resourcefulness, creativity, and mature judgment The Library Director also serves as the public persona of the Library, representing it as a warm, welcoming, and creative hub for its patrons. The Director is expected to enrich the community with innovative ideas and engaging programming, fostering an environment that supports learning, curiosity, and cultural enrichment. The Director works in partnership with the Board to ensure that the organization fulfills its mission and creates strategies that ensure its future success. The Director is accountable for the programmatic and fiscal integrity of the organization in keeping with the philosophy set by the Board of Trustees. The Library Director works with considerable independence, subject to board policies and directives, but is expected to demonstrate resourcefulness, initiative, creativity, and sound judgment in the performance of duties. The Director will work full time, including some evening and Saturday hours. Essential Qualifications: The Director must demonstrate leadership, organizational, and administrative skills, including leading and directing professionals, working collaboratively with budget planning and control, staff development, fundraising, board development, and public relations. The Director must have obtained the following: * Bachelor's degree plus 3-5 years' library experience in an increasingly responsible supervisory and/or administrative position * Librarian's Permanent Professional Certificate from the Library of Michigan (or qualify for) * Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with staff, patrons, vendors, and trustees Desired Qualifications: * Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree * Considerable experience in public services * Long-range and strategic planning experience Salary and Benefits: * Starting salary range: $50,000 - $65,000, based on qualifications and experience * Competitive benefits package To Apply: Please submit a cover letter, resume, and three professional references to: Crooked Tree District Library Attn: Megan Van Horn, Board Secretary 2200 Walloon St., P.O.
