Mental Health First Aid Adults Training for Library Staff July 20 The Library of Michigan is offering a Mental Health First Aid for Adults session open to staff from any library type on July 20, 2021. This is our fourth offering of the Mental Health First Aid classes taught by MSU Extension staff. There is no limit on the number of staff per library. Like CPR, Mental Health First Aid prepares participants to interact with a person in crisis and connect the person with help. First Aiders do not take on the role of professionals they do not diagnose or provide any counseling or therapy. Instead, the program offers concrete tools and answers key questions, like what do I do? and where can someone find help? Certified Mental Health First Aid instructors provide a list of community healthcare providers and national resources, support groups, and online tools for mental health and addictions treatment and support. All trainees receive a program manual to compliment the course material. The Mental Health First Aid training includes a 2-hour self-paced course, followed by a 5.5 hour instructor led training. Participants who do not complete the self-paced portion or attend the full instructor led day will not be eligible to receive a certificate of completion. Because seating is limited and a specialized certification is issued, you will need to agree to a number of stipulations and complete the MSU Extension registration here.
