The Grosse Pointe Public Library is a Class 6 Library, with a service population of 52,000+ people and three branches. There is strong community support for the Library and its collections, services and programs offered. Technology is integrated into Library services. The successful candidates will have the desire to work in a collaborative, team environment and take pride in providing prompt and friendly service to customers of all ages, and have a passion for serving the community. The following Core Values are the foundation for day-to-day operations, management, and leadership of the Grosse Pointe Public Library: Service Access to Information & Resources Intellectual Curiosity Respect Inclusion Innovation Kindness JOB RESPONSIBILITIES * Develop community and school partnerships to assess and identify changing teen trends that will fulfill the diverse educational, recreational and personal needs of local teens * Responsible for developing the teen collection; digital and traditional, print and electronic resources aimed at the specific interests and needs of teens in the community * Identify, implement and evaluate programs and activities that address the specific interests and needs of Grosse Pointe middle and high school aged patrons * Establishes and maintains Teen Advisory Board * Provide reference and reader's advisory to patrons, through use of print and electronic resources * Provide patron assistance and instruction in the use of library computers, catalog, electronic resources, digital downloads and Wi-Fi * Monitor and assist patrons and program presenters with use of meeting room and equipment, when necessary * Creation and posting of content to website and online calendar * Provide excellent customer service to the public * Supervise library environment to maintain safety and fair enforcement of library policies * Provide excellent internal customer service and teamwork to GPPL staff * Promote the services of the library and make recommendations for improvement of services * Attends and participates in professional library conferences, seminars, and network committees; reads professional literature; attends and participates in staff meeting discussions * Other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS * Master's Degree in Library Science from ALA accredited university * Strong written and verbal communication skills * Ability to work effectively with public, and library staff * Working knowledge of reference and electronic sources * Strong public service orientation * Excellent public service skills * Proficient in internet and computer usage * Flexible schedule, with the ability to work some nights and weekends * Passionate about teen services * Enthusiasm for the Maker Movement and Emerging Technologies and a passion for getting teens involved The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned this classification.
