Professional Development Opportunities

The Michigan Association for Media in Education (MAME) is offering opportunities for professional development and invites you to attend one or more of these special events next month The first is the MAME/MRA Collaborative Preconference focusing on Project Based Learning, November 2, 2016 at the Amway Grand Plaza : http://www.mimame.org/mame--mra-collaborative-preconference-ndash-2016 .html Join us for a full day of Project Based Learning discovery and exploration featuring keynote speaker Paige Jaeger! Paige is the Instructional Focus Editor for School Library Connection magazine. She has co-authored three books with Mary Boyd Ratzer, Think Tank Library: Brain-Based Learning Plans for New Standards for grades K-5 and grades 6-12 and Rx for the Common Core: Toolkit for Implementing Inquiry Learning. The second opportunity may be found by attending the MAME 43, two-day conference: Think, Create, Share, Grow: http://www.mimame.org/mame-43.html The keynote speaker this year will be Marcia Mardis. Her keynote address is: STEM, STEAM, common standards, and entrepreneurship reflect the current zeitgeist influencing education and information research and practice, college and career readiness, and popular culture. State Superintendent, Brian Whiston, will be speaking at the Presidential Awards Gala, Paige Jaeger will be a featured speaker, and nationally known Michigan librarians and columnists Lynn Rutan, Cindy Dobrez and Travis Jonker will be sharing fantastic new publications we all want to know about. Opportunity number three is the Sunrise Author Breakfast, held Friday morning at 7:45: Acclaimed authors and illustrator Gijsbert (Nick) and Robbyn Smith van Frankenhuyzen will be sharing with us how doing what they love provides the impetus for creating their books. This year, each attendee will receive one of their books, either Adopted By An Owl or I Love You Just Enough. Conference attendees can select the breakfast for a nominal additional fee.
