Recommendations for DVD Resurfacing Machines

Hello, One of our member libraries is interested in purchasing a disk resurfacing machine for their DVDs, and they have noticed that the prices range widely from about $150 to $3000. Obviously, they would like something that will be dependable and sturdy enough to do the job without breaking the bank. It would be greatly appreciated if others would share information about what resurfacing machines so that we have a better idea of what might work best for them. I would be happy to compile results and share with the list if others might be interested in this as well. Hi Shawn, We here at Ferndale Public Library love our RTI ECO Disc Repair machine. It's pretty pricey, but in the 6+ years we've had it, I can count on two hands the number of discs I wasn't able to put back into circulation after running them through it. They might be worth a call/email. http://www.discchek.com/ Another option would be to share it with another library or organization and split the cost. We at Troy Library also love our RTI Eco Smart. We have a super deluxe one that cleans 50 discs at a time, so we have no backlog at all. The Friends of the Library purchased it for us. The only downside is that, when it needed a repair, we had to take it back to Lincolnwood, IL; RTI does not have technicians available locally. Shipping costs were so high, it was cheaper for me to pay a staff member to drive it there. RTI did absorb the cost to ship it back to us. The need for repairs is extremely rare with these machines, but be advised there's significant cost on the big machines, if you have to ship it back. ________________________________ From: michlib-l-bounces@mail.mcls.org [michlib-l-bounces@mail.mcls.org] on behalf of Marth Lee [mlee@orionlibrary.org] Sent: Tuesday, September 24, 2013 1:28 PM To: Shawn Andary Cc: michlib-L@mail.mcls.org; Megan Parish Subject: Re: [Michlib-l] Recommendations for DVD Resurfacing Machines On 9/24/2013 12:11 PM, Shawn Andary wrote: Hello, One of our member libraries is interested in purchasing a disk resurfacing machine for their DVDs, and they have noticed that the prices range widely from about $150 to $3000. I'll second that repairs with our Eco Smart Senior have been very few. I have been able to manage them myself.
