Has anyone purchased an OCR scanner for use with local history/genealogy (or other) materials? Interested in recommendations for equipment, sources, sage counsel, etc.! Happy to summarize if others are interested. I was bequeathed a scanner by our archives department who had an extra one. It's a little slow and I'm not impressed with the size of the flat bed (A4) but it does a marvellous job with OCR -- the software was basically built for it. Because I didn't order it, I didn't realize how much it costs. So it's spendy, but truly excellent. I haven't used the document feeder but that also looks like it scans quickly. Kodak i2900 scanner https://www.alarisworld.com/en-us/solutions/document-scanners/desktop/i2900-... I think we just bought some software and use it in conjunction with our own scanner. https://www.abbyy.com/ From: Michlib-l <michlib-l-bounces@mcls.org> On Behalf Of Barbara Beaton via Michlib-l Sent: Friday, October 02, 2020 11:47 AM To: michlib-l@mail2.mcls.org Subject: [Michlib-l] OCR Scanning Has anyone purchased an OCR scanner for use with local history/genealogy (or other) materials? For overhead, we recently purchase one of these, to replace a dying $5000. Unit. Fujitsu PA03641-B305 ScanSnap SV600 Overhead Book Scanner $506.00 Being from Amazon, try it and if it doesn't do the job, return it, free.
