Hello Everyone, We are interested in purchasing a wireless printer for our patrons to use. It needs to be reliable and easy to use. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you very much, Pamela Withrow, Director Forsyth Township Public Library 180 W. Flint St. PO Box 1328 Gwinn, MI 49841 906-346-3433

Pamela, The best way to share a printer (any printer) is with Google Cloud Print<https://www.google.com/cloudprint/learn/>. Any other way would be a nightmare as software drivers would need to be installed on each PC (or mobile device) that wishes to print to it. Some wireless printers come with the GCP feature built-in, but all printers can be used when you connect it to a PC via USB and configure GCP using the PC. You can't limit usage too much, so it may get abused. The only thing that you can limit is the amount of printed pages per day per user. You can only accept payments for prints the old fashioned way... with library staff. If the printer is at a public desk (reference or checkout,) staff could collect payment when the patron comes to pick up the prints. There are some commercial (paid) solutions, but I'd test GCP in-house to see if it works for you. * PrinterOn<http://www.printeron.com/industries/education/higher-education.html> * SAM Wireless Printing<http://www.comprisetechnologies.com/?page_id=38> Eric Hayes Network & Systems Administrator Orion Township Public Library orionlibrary.org<http://www.orionlibrary.org/> w. 248-287-8019 c. 248-885-2301 From: michlib-l-bounces@mcls.org [mailto:michlib-l-bounces@mcls.org] On Behalf Of Pam Withrow Sent: Tuesday, March 22, 2016 1:41 PM To: michlib-l@mcls.org Subject: [Michlib-l] Wireless Printer Hello Everyone, We are interested in purchasing a wireless printer for our patrons to use. Pam, Are you talking about a printer that can print wirelessly in the sense that tablets and phones can print to it? Or a printer that is wire-less? I know Superiorland Library Cooperative utilizes Cybraryn which is great to keep track of patrons prints, etc. Amber Clement, Director Presque Isle District Library 181 East Erie Street Rogers City, MI 49779 989-734-2477 <http://www.pidl.org/> www.pidl.org From: michlib-l-bounces@mcls.org [mailto:michlib-l-bounces@mcls.org] On Behalf Of Eric Hayes Sent: Tuesday, March 22, 2016 1:54 PM To: 'Pam Withrow'; michlib-l@mcls.org Subject: Re: [Michlib-l] Wireless Printer Pamela, The best way to share a printer (any printer) is with Google Cloud Print <https://www.google.com/cloudprint/learn/> .
