great dance group

Hi all, Yesterday morning we hosted several members of the Bichini Bia Congo Dance Theater who performed for our Summer Reading Program participants and other community members. They were fantastic! Their drumming and dance is so energetic and authentic. They perform so well and involve the audience in call and response and dance moves. Just about everyone in the audience (about 190 people) got up and danced with them. I highly recommend them to you for any time of year and for all ages. Our VolunTeens loved them just as much as the younger kids and the grandparents. One parent earnestly thanked me for bringing them to our community. They were established in 1979 by Jean-Claude Biougilla Biza (Sompa) who teaches dance at the University of Michigan. The group promotes the preservation and practice of authentic Congolese Dance and African culture.
