Where do you keep your DVDs?

Hello all, Currently and for a while we have had all of our discs for only DVD/Blu Ray kept behind the desk while the empty cases are on the shelf for perusing. Does anyone else still do this? Is it more common than I am familiar with beyond the handful of libraries I have worked or been a part of? I think it was put in place to prevent stealing but I am not sure how much that is an issue compared to checking out someone with 10 DVDs going through the filing system. Looking forward to hearing back, thank you! We moved them from behind the desk to in the cases (not locked) about a year ago. They are cheaper than most books and it was extremely time consuming for staff. We haven't had any theft so far. Amber Hughey

Good morning! We put ours back in the cases on the shelves years ago. It's been fine. We have more expensive items out for patrons as well including STEAM kits. We were using locking cases until about 18 months ago. We have since removed the locking mechanism, and no longer put new DVDs/Blu-Rays/4Ks in locking cases. Everything is on the browsing shelves. So far, we have not noticed any increase in theft. We don’t. Over the years, we found we had more loss with people checking out & not returning than with theft.
