A key reason for Dr. Moree's visit to Michigan is that ZB Bibliotheek van Zeeland is identifying collections of Dutch immigrant newspapers and letters held by American libraries/archives. Many Dutch immigrants from the province of Zeeland settled in areas of the American Midwest, including Michigan. The publications and correspondence of these immigrants provides great insight into their experiences in the United States as well as documents the stories of those who stayed behind in the Netherlands. The goal of the project is to work with institutions in the United States to develop a digitized collection that preserves this portion of the story of Zeeland.
