We here in Franklin have been checking out the current issue for years. People love it. I don't worry much about the wear and tear since we weed them out of the collections every 6 months or a year. We now let current issues as well as past issues circulate and we have not had a problem with theft thus far. The magazines are clearly marked with our library's mailing label which includes the address. We have not noticed any increased wear and tear on the magazines either. Patrons seem to enjoy checking out the current issue and they are being returned when due. Hope this helps. We at the Livonia Public Library are currently using magazine binders to protect our current issues. We are considering not continuing this practice, and we wanted to see what other libraries currently do.
