Paraprofessional duties assigned by the YDL-Michigan Branch Manager will include but are not limited to the following: * Helping kids and parents find books and information in the Youth Department. * Assisting families in the use of computers, iPads, digital books, printing, and other library technology. * Marketing library materials by creating booklists and displays. * Engaging with youth to help them feel welcome in the library. * Planning and leading library programs for youth, families and teens. * Attending department meetings to help set team goals and develop new services to meet community needs. * Completing special projects as assigned. * Forming and maintaining community partnerships to better serve families. QUALIFICATIONS * Associate's Degree or equivalent. Formal training in a child-related field or experience working with youth desired. * Demonstrated ability to work with families and youth from diverse populations. * Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills. * Strong commitment to providing quality customer service. * Ability to function in a professional manner, work independently, and use good judgment. * Enthusiastic and dependable team player. * Creative problem solving skills and flexibility to adapt to changing community needs. * Proficiency with technology, including Microsoft Office and social media tools. * Strong desire to engage, nurture, and mentor children birth-18, their parents, caregivers and teachers. * Ability to organize, prioritize, and coordinate multiple tasks. * Knowledge of children's literature, youth development, and early learning concepts desired. YDL seeks an energetic, community-minded LMSW interested in building an innovative new service. The Library Social Worker will engage with the community at YDL’s three locations to help provide information, support, referrals, and follow-through to people experiencing challenging life circumstances. The Library Social Worker will help patrons seeking community resources such as mental health services, substance use services, housing services, food, educational, and other social services. This position will work closely with the YDL staff team using a community-based approach integrated with the Library’s mission, building relationships with a diverse library clientele to complement existing social services and address unmet community needs. The Library Social Worker will also serve as a resource for library staff, modeling effective techniques for working with patrons experiencing trauma/secondary trauma, mental health issues, substance use, unstable housing and other psychosocial needs. *Nature of Work/Responsibilities: *Under the general supervision of the Director, and with the support of YDL’s partners from EMU School of Social Work, the Library Social Worker assists with the design, implementation, and assessment of the library social work program. The branch is located in the southern portion of Superior Township, within walking distance of both middle-class neighborhoods and some of Washtenaw County’s most economically disadvantaged ones. Many users also visit from the northern, more rural parts of the Township. We seek a proven, dynamic and innovative supervisor to manage the 7,800 square foot library, provide leadership to its staff of 10 (6.725 FTE), and continue to grow library usership in the area. The very popular branch features a large meeting room, two small group study rooms, an interactive play area for youth, a learning garden, and a cozy fireplace. Bird-friendly glass and a 46kw solar array promote sustainability to visitors while enhancing the building’s airy design. *Nature of Work/Responsibilities: *Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, the Superior Branch Manager performs professional and administrative duties to coordinate the services, staff, programs, and collections of the branch and direct its daily activities.
