I am looking into to doing some basic computer classes for my library patrons. If any of you have done these, would you be willing to share what you covered, handouts to participants, how many sessions, cost if any? I would really appreciate not having to reinvent the wheel if possible. Thank you and have a great day, Diane Greiner Library Director Croton Township Library 8260 S. I just came back from PLA and the Denver Public Library gave a presentation and noted that they do lesson plans and handouts for a large number of computer classes. I checked and this is a wonderful resource that Denver is happy to share with other libraries. Go to https://www.denverlibrary.org/ctc-classes and click on the class you'd like to use. There should be links for a variety of handouts and plans. We do two sessions of computer basics - 90 minutes each. There is no charge and classes are open to the general public. I hope this helps! Hi Diane - Below are some good places to start with resources you can adapt for your own community as you start to offer computer basics for your patrons. * WebJunction provides several links to resources and webinars from other libraries and organizations so you don't have to reinvent the wheel - http://www.webjunction.org/explore-topics/computer-internet-basics.html * DigitalLearn.og has courses users can do online as well as resources for trainers. www.digitallearn.org<http://www.digitallearn.org> * Denver Public Library has a lot of tech class resources posted online and invite others to use or tweak them as well - https://www.denverlibrary.org/ctc-classes * Digital Literacy Teaching Tools - find links to tools/ tutorials on a wide variety of topics. http://www.digitalliteracy.gov/content/educator. This site is for all educators who teach all levels. * Tech Training for the Public from the Colorado Virtual Library has materials, lesson plans, outlines, handouts and more you can use - http://create.coloradovirtuallibrary.org/tech-training-public/ Shannon ----------------------- Shannon White Director of Statewide Library Services Library of Michigan 702 W. I also can't say enough about GCFlearnfree.org. Not only do they cover a lot of the topics we used to cover in classes, they also touch on things we don't-like smart phones and ipads. -Megan Hathaway, Canton PL On Tue, Apr 19, 2016 at 5:05 PM, White, Shannon (MDE) <WhiteS29@michigan.gov
